HOWARD W. CLARK
Pictured on this page are three
items. A footlocker, an A-4 bag and The Marauder a book
of the 22nd Bomb Group. The foot locker and the A-4 bag were
owned by T/Sgt. Howard W. Clark of Cicero, Indiana. Shipping
labels attached to the trunk and the bag were addressed to him
and his wife. The book belonged to Major Robert H. Ivy. Mentioned
in the book is T/Sgt. Howard W. Clark - winner of the Soldiers
Medal which was awarded for displaying heroism in duty that did
not involve combat. The 22nd Bomb Group made its headquarters
at Garbutt Field near Townesville, Australia and on April 5,
1942 launched its first combat mission from bases there. The
group was nicknamed "Red Raiders" after the group commander,
Col. Richard W. Robertson's, first B-24. I could find no information
for the Pleasure Bent II however the Pleasure Bent
was shot down on 11 September 1944 near Koblenz, Germany. The
information in the final disposition for the aircraft included:
Serial Number: 42-50358 Squadron: (H) 578 Call
Letter: EC-Q A/C Name: Pleasure Bent Final Disposition:
Sept 11, 44 near Koblenz, Germany Missions Flown: 12
Although not associated with
the 100th Bomb Group these items are presented here as an example
of nose art and because I have a little background on their previous
owner. These items show their age and are shown as they actually
appeared. The book and the bag have been sold but the trunk is
still owned by the publisher. Below are some links that concern
the above information.
