John Lechleiter was stationed at Thorpe Abbotts Airbase in England with Richard Mullaney. There is a section featuring pictures of him during that time in the book "Documentary of An Airman's Tour with the Eighth." The picture of him in uniform was taken when he was a cadet in the Army Air Corps. (The Air Force, as we know it today, was not established until 1947.)
