ILLUSTRATED WORLD WAR II ENCYCLOPEDIA - 24 volume encyclopedia of World War II. Based on the original text of Lieutenant Colonel Eddy Bauer. Brigadier Peter Young is Editor-In-Chief and the foreword is by Brigadier General James L. Collins, Jr. who is also one of the consulting editors. The chronology of World War Two is covered in these 24 volumes. "From the moment that German troops began crossing the Polish border at dawn on September 1, 1939, a conflict began that would grow to cover most of the world's surface, and would affect in some way the majority of the world's population. The History of World War II describes in depth the events and participants of the major war of the twentieth century, a war that saw almost fifty million soldiers and civilians die, and dwarfed its predecessor of 1914-18 in terms of the misery and destruction it caused for mankind......" It's widely known that Hitler and Stalin dismembered Poland in 1939. Little known is that, a year earlier, Poland had joined Hitler in dismembering Czechoslovakia. This ironic bit of historical trivia appears in Volume One. It begins with the invasion of Poland and it's division by Hitler and Stalin in 1939 and the invasion of Czechoslovakia only months before that when it was dismembered by Poland and Germany. Includes thousands of pictures, maps, diagrams, illustrations and photographs in both color and black and white. Volume 24 includes posters of the war and an index. Text and graphics cover chronological developments, pre and post war events and histories, politics, battles, leaders, tactics, campaigns, outcomes, logistics, mobilization, politics, Allied and Axis planning, strategies, all area and Fronts are featured with full naval action, battles, and more until the end of the war in 1945. There is not enough room here to begin to describe the contents. One of the most coherent, unbiased, histories of World War Two ever written. The free collection of full-color schematic prints is enclosed. I am not sure if it is all of the original prints but there are six prints and they are in pristine condition. They include: the Sherman tank - British Vickers Supermarine Spitfire - aircraft carriers LEXINGTON and YORKTOWN - Japanese Mitsubishi Zero - American Boeing B-17G - German Messerchmitt - all in full color on high gloss paper. The hard covers are cream colored leatherette with red and gold lettering and each cover has a gilt illustration of raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. Originally these volumes sold for $19.95 each. Published by H. S. Stuttman, Inc. in 1978. Each volume is 10.5 inches tall by 8.25 inches wide. All the pages are clean and tight to the binding. ISBN 0-87475-520-4. No foxing, staining, or odor.
